Emerge Women's Leadership Workshop

YWCA Bristol will host its spring Emerge Women’s Professional Series in Kingsport on Friday, March 10. Emerge is a quarterly workshop led by local, regional and national experts with trainings specifically geared for women at all levels of their professional career.

The March 10 workshop, hosted at the Eastman Lodge, will feature three inspirational presenters providing women with resources and strategies to enhance their professional development.

Leslie Nichols is an award-winning artist who uses found and original text to create imagery. She is known for her works created on manual typewriters and has displayed her work in over one hundred exhibitions. Nichols will share her art and passion for women throughout history striving for social justice and present Recognizing Your Potential, discussing how to nurture your talent, find inspiration to move to the next stage, and pay it forward.

Jenny Brown has over 20 years of experience in leadership and management roles, supporting both Corporate Executives and Small Business Owners. Jenny coaches on how to be more productive, lead more balanced lives through discovering purpose, leveraging strengths, and utilizing SMART action plans. Jenny will present Change the Perception, Change the Reality,  demonstrating how to create an environment that is conducive to effective communication, how to navigate the three stages of communication, and how to change the course of communication with the right attitude and perspective.

Dr. Bahby Banks is a widely sought after motivational speaker and program evaluation consultant residing in Durham, North Carolina.  As owner of Pillar Consulting, LLC, Dr. Banks works with non-profit organizations to guide inquiry, build capacity and assess effectiveness of their programs. Dr. Banks will present Effective Networking, where attendees will learn how to understand the fundamental characteristics of networks, identify common barriers and facilitators to intraorganizational networking and explore key strategies to establish, sustain and nurture networks.

Attendees at the Emerge Conference will also be awarded .4 Continuing Education Unit credit by Northeast State Community College.

The workshop is from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and includes a light breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and a networking lunch. Early registration is encouraged, as seating is limited. For pricing structure and registration information, visit ywcabristol.org, or contact the YWCA at 423-968-9444.

Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy Emmanuel

Give a listen to “Old Photographs,” the closing track on Tommy Emmanuel’s It’s Never Too Late, and you’ll hear the distinctive squeak of finger noise as he runs his hands across the frets of his Maton Signature TE guitar. It’s an imperfection in the performance that players typically try to eliminate in practice, and in the hands of a less-secure musician, that sound could easily be edited from the recording. But in their own way, those imperfections are perfect. For all of the masterful technique and flashy ability that’s brought Emmanuel recognition among the world’s greatest guitarists, that finger noise lets the audience know he is one of them. That click conveys warmth and humanity; and it demonstrates an honesty in the sound.

Given his first guitar at age four, Emmanuel pursued music with a passion throughout his youth in a variety of bands. Once solo, Emmanuel earned standing ovations from audiences, and received two Grammy® nominations, two ARIA Awards from the Australian Recording Industry Association, and repeated honors in the Guitar Player magazine reader’s poll. Emmanuel was honored by the late Chet Atkins as a Certified Guitar Player, making him one of only five musicians to receive the C.G.P. distinction from the master.
