An Irish Spring

The Milligan Concert Choir and Women's Chorale, conducted by Dr. Noah DeLong, will
present an exciting and varied program of choral music. The concert also will include a
guest performance by the Highland Youth Ensemble, a select choir of 9 th -12 th grade
singers that is part of the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy. Together, the
Concert Choir and HYE will perform selections of the program for their upcoming joint
Ireland tour.

*Following the Legal Aid Wellness Checkup, up to 10 (ten) pre-screened (via this registration page), pre-registered individuals coping with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia or individuals with family members coping with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia will be able to meet one-on-one with a lawyer to complete certain estate planning documents. Thanks to a grant from The Pat Summitt Foundation, there will be no charge for the lawyer’s time in meeting with and preparing these legal documents.

Milligan College Senior Grant Coakley, Senior Vocal Recital

Vocal music education major Grant Coakley, from Parrottsville, Tennessee, will present a
senior voice recital, featuring works by Bach, Brahms, Purcell, Ravel, and others.
Coakley has been an active member of the college’s music program, performing in the
Concert Choir, Heard Mentality, Heritage, and the Jazz Ensemble. He also was the
recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Music Student Award.

The Midtown Men at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center
As original cast members of Broadway’s Jersey Boys, these four took the world by storm. From the development of Jersey Boys, through their historic 3 season run on Broadway, The Midtown Men are together again, doing what they do best: “Sixties Hits With A Modern Twist.” Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer are taking their sensational sound on the road, bringing to life their favorite “Sixties Hits” from The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Motown, The Four Seasons, and more.

The Midtown Men are lifting audiences to their feet in venues across the continent, realizing the dream they brought to life as the iconic Four Seasons. The Midtown Men is the next chapter for these accomplished entertainers, making them the first vocal group ever formed by the principal cast of a high-profile Broadway show.

NEW THIS YEAR- More Than Pink Power Zone- Survivors/Fighters and a guest are invited to join us for a special breakfast in this tent. Also this year, for anyone who fundraises, for each $132 raised you will will receive an armband for this tent also. Why $132? That is the medicare reimbursement rate for a screening mammogram.

The Poetry of Music

The Milligan Orchestra, directed by Dr. Kellie Brown, will conclude its season with a
spring concert that celebrates National Poetry Month, the largest literary celebration in
the world. The orchestra will perform pieces inspired by works of poetry by James Agee.

Samuel Coleridge, Octavio Paz, John Donne, William McGonagall, and Oscar Wilde. In
collaboration with students and faculty from the college’s English department, each poem
represented will be read, followed by the musical interpretation. Jane Hicks, renowned
Appalachian poet, will be the special guest reading her poem “Poor Valley Pilgrims,”
which celebrates the historic journey of the Carter family to the Bristol Sessions, forever
changing the course of music in our country. A composition based on this poem by
award-winning composer Evelyn Pursley-Kopitzke, commissioned especially for this
concert, will conclude the program.

Only the best art, photography, sculpture and graphic design projects will be selected for display, and awards of excellence and merit wil be given to standout pieces.
