Bill Lepp as Teller-in-Residence

Bill Lepp as Teller-in-Residence

Bil Lepp is an internationally-known storyteller, author, and recording artist whose style has been described as a satisfying blend of Bob Newhart and Jeff Foxworthy.  A five-time champion of the West Virginia Liars’ Contest, his outrageous tall-tales and witty stories are a signature of his repertoire.

Lepp has been featured at venues across the nation, including the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and Comedy Central.  He is the recipient of the NSN ORACLE Circle of Excellence award, and his picture book, The King of Little Things, won a Parents’ Choice Gold award.

“[Lepp] goes for the funny bone.  He stuffs his hands in his pockets and leans back as he nonchalantly lets drop the zinger to his tale.”  – The Boston Globe

Stopping Physician Burnout

Doctors throughout the nation felt the pinch of burnout at rates ranging from 40 to 55 percent during 2016, according to a report by Medscape, an industry news source. (http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/lifestyle/2016/public/overview#page=2)

In light of these critical levels of burnout, UT’s Haslam College of Business and The University of Tennessee Medical Center will host Dike Drummond from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 525 Henley St.

Drummond, a family doctor trained at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, has devoted himself to addressing physician burnout since 2011. He has more than 2,000 hours of one-on-one physician coaching experience.

He also hosts an online community of more than 12,000 physicians from 63 countries at The Happy MD, and has trained more than 10,000 doctors to lower stress, build life balance, improve their practices.

Drummond’s book Stop Physician Burnout: What to Do When Working Harder Isn’t Working has sold more than 25,000 copies.

“We’re excited to host Dr. Drummond because we know physician burnout is a widespread problem, and his approach to mitigating it is both unique and comprehensive,” said Kate Atchley, executive director of UT’s executive education for healthcare program.

UT Physician Executive MBA studentsand alumni will be in attendance and open to other physicians and health care leaders. Participants will learn the causes of physician burnout, discuss its symptoms, analyze its pathophysiology, and identify a step-by-step prevention formula.

The event costs $49 and includes a copy of Drummond’s book Stop Physician Burnout: What to Do When Working Harder Isn’t Working, a boxed lunch, 4 hours of continuing medical education credits (CME,) and parking. Registration is required.  Go to http://healthcaresolutions.utk.edu/events/BurnoutProof/ to register.
