JOHNSON CITY – Johnson City Public Library will host local author Robert Santos-Prowse, MS, RD on Thursday, April 18 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Santos-Prowse is a registered dietitian who specializes in low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets. He will speak in the library’s Jones Meeting Room about his recent book The Cyclical Ketogenic Diet: A Healthier, Easier Way to Burn Fat with Intermittent Ketosis.
Santos-Prowse became interested in the ketogenic diet after learning about it in his graduate biochemistry class. He says, “I tried the diet for myself, experienced fantastic results and fell in love with it.” According to Santos-Prowse, people on a ketogenic diet can lose weight, get more energy, think more clearly and gain control over their blood sugar.
The traditional ketogenic diet requires a restrictive low-carb and high-fat intake, which can yield quick results but can also make it hard to maintain in everyday life. Santos-Prowse understands this dilemma, and so his book focuses on a cyclical variation of the diet that makes it more practical and sustainable but still provides long-term effects. To make the diet as accessible as possible, Santos-Prowse’s book includes expert nutrition tips, delicious recipes and step-by-step meal plans.
Santos-Prowse describes himself as a father, registered dietitian, author and student of human wellness. He graduated from ETSU in 2015 with a master’s degree in human nutrition. He currently works as a clinical dietitian for an inpatient rehab facility.
