At the heart of most success stories lies a framework of brand invention, the creation of a persona or x-factor that raises an artist above the noise. But for pop vocal group Anthem Lights, it is reinvention that’s catapulted the talented foursome to nearly 500 million YouTube views and over two million monthly listeners on streaming services. The indie group’s success is due in large part to the foursome’s vocal prowess (Caleb Grimm, Chad Graham, Spencer Kane, and Joey Stamper are all exceptional singers), creative mash-ups and reinventions of pop hits and beloved hymns.

“I think the most unique thing about us is that we do all kinds of music,” shares Graham. “We do everything from a hymns medley to a Drake cover to a year-end mash-up. Our musical diversity is our identity.” Anthem Lights produces a wide variety of new covers, original songs and video content every month, a perfected mix that keeps their fans engaged.

As a child growing up in Apopka, Florida, John Anderson remembers humming along to the tone of his father’s boat motor, possibly igniting a spark that led to the start of his music career. Anderson performed solo around Florida before moving to Nashville where he worked in construction. Ironically, he was on the roofing crew for the new Grand Ole Opry House before landing a contract with Warner Bros. Records.

John started cranking out memorable hits such as “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Someday),” “Wild and Blue,” “I Just Came Home to Count the Memories,” “1959,” “Black Sheep,” and, of course, his signature hit “Swingin’.” His career cooled off but saw a resurgence when he signed with BNA in 1991 and scored a comeback hit with chart-topping “Straight Tequila Night” from his acclaimed Seminole Wind album. In 1993, Anderson was awarded the Academy of Country Music Career Achievement award. That momentum carried him into the 2000s, giving him 60 charting country singles in four consecutive decades.

Cantemus, the Tri-Cities’ premiere women’s choir, is in rehearsal for its second concert of the season titled Poetry in Motion.

Artistic Director Patty Denmark and co-conductor Sarah Malone have chosen a program that features a diverse selection of timeless poems set to music, showcasing the versatility and expressiveness of the female voice. The repertoire spans various genres and time periods and includes some favorites that have been sung over the past ten years.

We will be singing poems written by Mark Twain (Good Night, Dear Heart), Robert Frost (A Girl’s Garden), Emily Dickinson (I Shall Keep Singing!), and many others. We will kick off the evening with the song that inspired our name,  Cantemus! by Lajos Bardos. “Cantemus” is Latin for “let us sing”. The concert is an immersive experience that will resonate with both seasoned concert-goers and those new to the world of choral music.

Collectively, our repertoire speaks of womanhood and underscores the profound joy that accompanies the decision to shape one's life around the people, places, and pursuits that makes one feel alive. For members of Cantemus, this idea is echoed every time we choose to sing together.

Poetry in Motion will showcase Stephanie Yoder on piano, Nicole Misterly and Bryant Denmark on violin, Wendy Royston on viola, Georgia Sinko on cello, and Eileen Butler on flute. The Spring concert will be presented at the following dates and locations:

 
Friday, May 10^th, at 7:00 pm at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, TN 
Saturday, May 11^th, at 7:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, TN

Jimmy Fortune, Bradley Walker, Mike Rogers, and Ben Isaacs come together as Brothers of the Heart, combining individual talents and star power to create something fresh and exciting. With decades of musical experiences behind them, Fortune, Walker, Rogers, and Isaacs know they have something special; and even though they each continue to nurture their careers outside the group, they are thankful for the creative moments they have together.

Jimmy Fortune rose to fame as a member of the Statler Brothers and penned some of their biggest hits before forging a successful solo career when the quartet retired. Bradley Walker is a Dove Award-winning artist with a strong following in country, gospel and bluegrass. Ben Isaacs has performed with his mother and sisters for years as the GRAMMY® nominated group, The Isaacs. Formerly with the legendary Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Mike Rogers is one of the most highly respected musicians in bluegrass music.

Now on their sophomore album, Listen to the Music, the group has put their creative spin on country, rock and gospel classics, following the success of the 2020 album/TV special/DVD, Brotherly Love.
