Gladys Knight at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center

Gladys Knight at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center

The great ones endure, and Gladys Knight has long been one of the greatest. Very few singers over the last sixty years have matched her unassailable artistry. This seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner has enjoyed No. 1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B, and adult contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television, and live performance.

All told, Knight has recorded more than 38 albums over the years, including four solo albums: Good Woman, (1991), Just for You (1994), the inspirational Many Different Roads (1999), and At Last (2001). At Last showed the world that she still has what it

takes to record a hit album, employing the talents of contemporary producers like Randy Jackson.

Knight has continued to spread her acting wings, making a guest star appearance in the FOX hit show Star and appearing in the film Almost Christmas in 2016. In 2022, she received the 45th Kennedy Center Honors for Lifetime Artistic Achievements along with George Clooney, Amy Grant, Tania Leone, and U2. This year she was honored as a 2024

GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree.

Girl Named Tom Christmas Tour at NPAC

Girl Named Tom Christmas Tour at NPAC

Three siblings unlock one harmony to unite the world as Girl Named Tom. The trio—Bekah, Joshua, and Caleb Liechty—notably made history as the only group to ever win NBC’s The Voice.

Along the way, they’ve impressively generated over 25 million streams across chart-rattling covers such as “River,” “The Chain,” and “Dust in the Wind.” The proud Midwesterners gained further traction with the independent release of Another World EP. Inking a deal with Republic Records, they served up their debut holiday EP, One More Christmas, which reached No. 1 on the iTunes Charts, and embarked on a massive arena tour supporting Pentatonix for A Christmas Spectacular.

Since 2022 the group has been living life on the road performing over 200 shows to date. The sibling trio has captivated millions on television, appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, singing for the Indy 500, and returning for a heart-wrenching performance on The Voice Finale a year after their win. Their inimitable harmony continued to resound louder with the 2023 release of the single “What A View” and with more new music on the way in 2024, including their most recent release of “Get A Little Lost.”

Soups and Songs

Soups and Songs

This annual fundraising event kicks off the holiday season each year, always falling on the Monday after Thanksgiving. The McKinney Center and the cast of the StoryTown Radio Show present this unique event which brings together food, art, music, and storytelling.

Guests are warmed in body and spirit as they are treated to a delicious dinner of soup, salad, bread, and cookies. Afterwards, they’ll be invited to a sing-along with the cast and the Jonesborough Novelty Band in a holiday performance of carols, songs, and stories. This year’s event will also include the talents of jazz quartet Portail du Son from Dobyns Bennett High School and Thankful Baptist Church Mass Choir. Each guest receives a beautiful, hand-made ceramic ornament created by local artists.

All the soups are locally sourced, with at least one vegetarian option available. Guests may continue to fill their bowls, trying one or all the delicious offerings.

Tickets to this fundraising event are $35, and will support the McKinney Center’s special programming, including the StoryTown Radio Show. The doors open at 5:30 pm, soup service begins at 6:00 pm, and the show will start around 6:45 pm.

Seating is limited to one-hundred-twenty-five, and purchasing tickets well in advance is recommended, as the event regularly sells out ahead of time.
